Updated: Jul 27, 2021

The food scene in Austin is an ever growing field of variety, quality, and of course, deliciousness. As a minor foodie myself, I took on the responsibility of compiling a mini list for you to learn of some of my favorites, where they are, what to order, and a little bit of background on the ownership.

Put simply, people come here for the atmosphere and drinks. The food is OK, but that's not ideally a reason anyone goes. The wait is usually long (45 mins+) and the parking lot gets full quickly, so drop someone off to get the table while you park on the other side of the road. Parking is free (for now) and there are a lot of fun things to do in this little spot between Westfield and Tarrytown known as Oyster Landing, like checking out Mozart's Coffee Roasters and Abel's on the Lake.

Casa De Luz is an aesthetically pleasing nature-esque restuarant that holds a special place in the heart of many Austinites. The city has tried so hard to buy the lot that this gem sits on as it is surrounded by developed city structures such as Coldwater Luxury Apartments*. This healthy restuarant serves 100% vegan, organic, wholesome, oil & refined sugar free food. There are lots of options between the plates and desserts they serve, so expect to leave satisfied and bewildered by the lush environment. The menu changes as it is made fresh daily (the quality is known to vary.)

One of Austin's best kept secrets, very recently a fellow agent recommended this spot in Hyde Park. I decided to give it a shot. and I was delighted by the whole experience. The breezy patio is the prefect way to spend your mid-day afternoon with a glass of wine and calamari or a meatball pizza. I was a only slightly disappointed they didn't have lasagna, but I'm told that means it is much more authentic Italian food. Bonus points if you try their dark chocolate cannoli's. The owner stopped by our table and told us it is his wife's family's recipe they have used for generations.

This is a newer restaurant on the west side that had me swept off of my feet. The atmosphere is cozy, moody, and overall a great way to start off a night on the town. I was most impressed with the miso soup and edamame - because it doesn't taste like every other restaurant's miso and edamame. It was incredible, a flavor party in my mouth. The menu is full of variety and will entertain you with hours of delicious modern Japanese cuisine.
